Jatiya Party Calls for Quick Intervention to Address Power and Gas Shortfalls

Bangla Press Desk: Jatiya Party Secretary General and former minister ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader has called on the government to take immediate and long-term measures to address the country's ongoing gas and electricity crisis.

He also warned that the shortages are disrupting daily life and industrial production.

Speaking at an exchange of views at the Jatiya Party chairman's political office in Gulshan on Monday, the veteran freedom fighter said energy security is essential for sustaining Bangladesh's economic growth.

"The shortages of gas and electricity are affecting industrial output, business activities and the daily lives of ordinary people. There is no alternative to adopting realistic and coordinated plans to ease public suffering," he said.

Howlader also stressed the need to modernise power generation and distribution systems to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply.

Commenting on constitutional reform, he said the Constitution is the nation's fundamental document and that any amendment should be made through broad national consensus, reflecting the aspirations of all political parties and the people. He further said that democracy can only be strengthened through mutual respect, political tolerance and a culture of dialogue, urging all political forces to continue constructive discussions in the national interest.

Reaffirming his party's stance, Howlader said the Jatiya Party remains committed to responsible politics that prioritises public welfare, adding that all stakeholders must work together to overcome the energy crisis, maintain economic stability and strengthen democratic progress.

Several senior Jatiya Party leaders, including Presidium members and organisational secretaries, also attended the meeting.
