JCD President Signals Exit as New Leadership Looms

Bangla Press Desk:  Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rakibul Islam Rakib has hinted that his time in office is set to end soon, and has also urged everyone to warmly receive the upcoming new leadership in the student organization.

In a Facebook post early Friday, Rakib said the “best part of his life” is about to end soon amid a “significantly dignified and cordial atmosphere,” for which he is grateful to the Almighty Allah a “trillion times.”Rakib said he would also forever remain grateful to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, and late state leader Khaleda Zia for allowing him to continue in his post at JCD, the student wing of the ruling BNP, for an extended period.

He also expressed “limitless gratitude” to erstwhile BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Student Affairs Secretary Rakibul Islam Bokul, other top leaders of BNP and former top leaders of Chhatra Dal.

The student leader expressed “infinite gratitude” to the leaders at JCD units in all the prominent public universities of the country, and public medical colleges.

He extended special thanks to JCD units in Dhaka-based public general colleges, and four major cities for ensuring successes in street movements, and countering around a hundred conspiracies efficiently through their labour and sweat.

Rakib said he would remain proud throughout his life for all the leadership units at all the university and colleges as these leaders never made headlines for the wrong reasons. In spite of acute financial constraints, they led their subordinate units and members, Rakib said.

Rakib claimed he personally worked to promote positive student politics, and tried to ensure that no general and apolitical student becomes a subject of abuse or wrong treatment at the hands of JCD activists.

Rakib claimed that he also assisted general students to his capacity even if they were not part of JCD.

He said thanks to all the brotherly student organisations that joined in the fight against the fascist ruling class.

The present central committee’s chief achievement is playing a valiant and effective role against the fascist rule during the July Uprising in coordination with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Since the ouster of the fascist rulers on 5 August 2024, JCD leaders have had to counter hundreds of mob incidents at all the educational institutions across the country, and also continue leading their subordinates despite a persistent wave of cyber bullying.

Rakib said he wanted to start a new life and wished to develop himself into a further refined, humanitarian and honest person. Yet, as none is above reproach, he naturally committed mistakes and errors during his prolonged stay as the JCD president. Therefore, he requested everyone concerned to pardon him if they were hurt by his actions.
