Justice Ahmed Sohel becomes Judicial Service Commission member

Bangla Press Desk:  The President on Tuesday appointed High Court Division Justice Ahmed Sohel as the member of Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) for five years.

A Law and Justice Division gazette, signed by Deputy Secretary (admin-1) AFM Golzar Rahman, said the President made the appointment as per Rule 3(2) (Kha) and Rule 3 (3) of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission Rules, 2007.

The appointment will come into effect immediately, it added.

Justice Sohel completed his studies at the University of Dhaka and later qualified as a barrister in the United Kingdom, where he began his legal career in 2002. After returning home, he enrolled with the Bangladesh Bar Council and practised at the High Court and later the Appellate Division before his appointment as an additional judge on 31 May 2018.

Son of late Justice Mohammad Ansar Ali, Justice Sohel has delivered several significant verdicts, including the landmark ruling declaring Article 116 of the Constitution unconstitutional and directing the establishment of a separate judicial secretariat.
