‘Khaleda Zia safeguarded Bangladesh’s sovereignty’

Bangla Press Desk:   BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said on Friday that Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty remained protected under the leadership of former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

He made the remarks while inaugurating a photographic exhibition on the late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at Justice Shahabuddin Park in the capital’s Gulshan area.

The exhibition has been organised by the Bogura Media and Cultural Forum, Dhaka, and will continue till tomorrow.

Speaking as the chief guest, Rizvi said that a power plant from which electricity is being supplied to Bangladesh from India’s Jharkhand was earlier cancelled by India’s own Planning Ministry. However, during what he described as a period of fascist rule, similar projects were implemented in Bangladesh’s Rampal area.

He claimed that such anti-national projects could never have been carried out under Khaleda Zia’s leadership, which, he alleged, was why she was imprisoned and denied proper medical treatment as part of a plan to kill her slowly.

Rizvi further alleged that regional and global powers are conspiring to seize Bangladesh’s remaining coal and gas reserves.

The programme was chaired by Marufa Rahman, President of the Bogura Media and Cultural Forum, while General Secretary Sujan Mahmud conducted the event.

Among others present were the organisation’s Chief Adviser Atikur Rahman and Daily Karatoa Editor Helaluzzaman Lalu.
