Khosru calls for NGO collaboration to ensure effective public services

Bangla Press Desk: Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said government collaboration with NGOs is crucial for effectively delivery of public services to the people.

He said this at a program on post-flood rehabilitation efforts at Chattogram Circuit House today.

The Finance Minister pointed out that corruption, inefficiency, and poor management in the distribution system lead to significant losses.
"Therefore, the government has taken initiatives to establish partnerships with the private sector and NGOs.

“This collaboration extends beyond just post-flood rehabilitation activities, he said, adding that government institutions, the private sector and NGOs are working together on the government's new economic model, 'Creative Economy', he said.

Amir Khosru said the government acts as the first responder by providing emergency assistance during floods. However, in the subsequent phases, there is long-term involvement of institutions and individuals.

Involvement of NGOs and private sector institutions is vital for addressing the challenges in a coordinated manner, he said.
The minister said it is not always possible for the government to provide services directly across all regions. Involving the private sector and NGOs in the delivery system enhances efficiency while simultaneously minimising opportunities for waste and corruption.
He also mentioned that, to date, he has not received any allegations of corruption related to the post-flood relief efforts, which the minister regarded as a success of the government.

He noted that only 1.2 percent of errors occurred in the pilot project for distributing family cards, which is considered very low in the context of Bangladesh.

There has been no political influence in this program, nor will there be in the future. Media monitoring is contributing to the effectiveness of the government's service delivery system, he added.
Divisional Commissioner Dr. Ziauddin, Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Miah, WASA Managing Director Selim Mohammad Jane Alam, CDA Chairman Belayet Hossain, and other senior government officials were present at the event.
