Bangla Press Desk: Kriti Sanon, a popular actress in the South Indian film industry, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection for her 'personality rights.' She is requesting legal safeguards against the unauthorized use of her name, face, image, voice, or identity for commercial purposes.
The unauthorized use of celebrities' names and images for commercial gain—along with the emergence of AI-generated content, deepfakes, and digital impersonation—has become increasingly common. Legal cases are also being filed regarding the use of celebrities' identities to promote counterfeit products. Several other stars have previously sought and obtained court protection for their names, appearances, and voices.
During a hearing on Friday (October 16), the Delhi High Court raised several questions regarding the scope of 'personality rights.' The court directed that relevant judicial precedents and legal research papers be submitted to clarify exactly what these rights encompass. The court indicated that a detailed order would be issued after reviewing the documents provided by the actress's legal team. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 29.
The matter was heard before the bench of Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav. Advocate Pravin Anand appeared on behalf of Kriti Sanon. At the outset of the hearing, the judge inquired about the specific elements that fall under the ambit of 'personality rights' and sought further clarification regarding their legal limits and scope.
Kriti’s counsel has been asked to submit a compilation of relevant judicial rulings, research papers, and other legal documentation. Additionally, the court has requested a formal legal interpretation of these rights from her side.
Notably, Kriti Sanon was last seen in the film 'Cocktail 2'. Released on June 19, the film did not perform well and faced significant criticism regarding its weak storyline. The film featured Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna alongside Kriti.
