Kriti Sanon approaches the High Court
Bangla Press Desk: Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has approached the Delhi High Court to protect her personality and publicity rights. She has initiated legal action, alleging the unauthorized use of her name, image, persona, and other identifiable attributes.
Her petition also addresses issues concerning content generated through artificial intelligence (AI) and the impersonation of her identity across digital platforms.
Given the rising number of such cases, the court has highlighted the need for a more detailed examination of the legal basis and scope of personality rights. When the matter was brought before a single-judge bench presided over by Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, the actress's counsel was directed to submit relevant judgments, research papers, and other pertinent documentation.
The Delhi High Court stated that a comprehensive order will be issued following a review of the submitted documents.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 29.
Currently, the Delhi High Court is witnessing an increase in disputes concerning personality rights. Prominent figures from various fields are seeking judicial intervention for protection against the creation of fake identities via AI, deepfakes, misleading promotions, and the unauthorized commercial use of their personas.
In recent months, several high-profile individuals have sought such legal protection, including former cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Sunil Gavaskar, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and actors Arjun Kapoor, Allu Arjun, Nagarjuna, Varun Dhawan, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Naga Chaitanya.
The list also includes singer Jubin Nautiyal, filmmaker Karan Johar, podcaster Raj Shamani, and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. They have either approached the court or secured legal safeguards to prevent the unauthorized use of their identities and personas—specifically against AI-generated, fabricated content.
Most recently, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has also filed a lawsuit to protect her personality and publicity rights. She has alleged that her identity was used without permission in obscene and pornographic content circulated via digital media. In response to her application for an interim injunction, the court has also issued a notice.
