Litton hopeful of returning for West Indies series
BanglaPress Desk: The scan report for Bangladesh ODI captain Litton Das’s injury has revealed no serious issues, bringing a sense of relief to the Bangladesh cricket setup. However, the wicketkeeper-batter may require a few more days to fully recover due to a minor muscular complication. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical staff remain optimistic that he could be available for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies, provided his condition improves.
On Tuesday (October 20), a BCB medical official stated that nothing concerning was found in Litton’s scan report. Nevertheless, he will remain under observation for another day or two to determine the exact nature of the injury and a potential timeline for his return to the field. In the meantime, he is undergoing light physiotherapy.
Litton has been ruled out of the ongoing tri-nation ODI series—featuring Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe—due to discomfort in his hip joint. Following uncertainty regarding his fitness ahead of the series, he was withdrawn from the squad on the advice of medical staff. In his absence, Towhid Hridoy is leading the Bangladesh side.
On Monday, Litton met with BCB medical staff at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, where his scan results were reviewed and he received initial physiotherapy. A member of the medical committee noted that while no major issues were detected, there is a minor muscular complication. His treatment continued on Tuesday.
According to the medical team, Litton’s progress will be monitored over the next two days, which should provide a clearer picture of his recovery and when he might return to action. Consequently, the BCB is not yet making a final decision regarding his participation in the Test series against the West Indies; however, the absence of any serious hip joint damage offers a reason for optimism.
As part of the World Test Championship, Bangladesh is set to play a two-Test series against the West Indies. According to the schedule, the first Test begins on October 28 in Dhaka, while the second match is slated to take place on November 5 in Sylhet. Bangladesh’s goal is to further strengthen their position in the World Test Championship points table. So far, the team has secured 40 points from six Tests—comprising three wins, two losses, and one draw—placing them fourth in the standings with a points percentage of 55.56%. The upcoming series against the West Indies is crucial for maintaining this position or climbing even higher. Consequently, the return of experienced batter Litton Das to the squad—fully fit and in time—comes as a major relief for Bangladesh.
