Mahdi Amin Outlines Govt Activities Since Taking Office
Bangla Press Desk: Prime Minister’s Spokesperson and Adviser Mahdi Amin on Monday outlined BNP government’s initiatives since assuming office through general elections six months ago with a focus on social safety programmes, global challenges, and good governance.
Mahdi Amin outlined the government’s six-month journey and public reception in 10 broad categories as he addressed a views exchange meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital. In the beginning, Mahdi Amin highlighted that the unassailable majority BNP has achieved in the parliament reflects people’s massive emotional support for the “long-oppressed party.”
He then claimed the BNP government set the “highest standards” in the areas of freedom of speech, rule of law and human rights in keeping with the aspirations of the people and activists who toppled the Awami League fascist government in August 2024.
“Not a single” incident of politicised repression took place over the past six months, Mahdi said adding that the government showed patience many a time when critics breached limits on faulting the cabinet members.
The government is working tirelessly to implement the election manifesto which embodies all the pledges BNP has made since its inception including founder Ziaur Rahman’s 19-point plan, former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s “Vision 2030”, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s 27-point plan, and the 31-point reform plan endorsed by the BNP-led anti-fascist political alliance.
BNP will also implement the July Charter with the “notes of dissent,” Mahdi Amin said.
To keep its pledges made in the manifesto, the government has already rolled out Farmer Card, Family Card, Expatriate Card, Employment Exchanges, and special honorarium for religious preachers.
Furthermore, the government has ensured prices remain stable during Ramadan soon after taking power, despite the huge difficulties posed by 15 years of mismanagement and corruption by the Awami League regime, Mahdi Amin said.
No labour unrest was evident during the two Eid festivals, as the government ensured fair wage disbursements, the PMO spokesperson added.
Following the start of the Iran war and simultaneous global energy supply disruption, the BNP government kept prices stable for a long time to avoid price pressures on consumers, he said.
Then the government passed a pro-people fiscal budget, where prices of over 60 products have been kept stable by reducing taxes – following orders from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Mahdi Amin said.
The budget is business-friendly, investment-friendly and economic-friendly, where the priority has been given on people’s welfare through emphasis on the health and education sectors, new employment generation and energy security.
The government acknowledges the acute countrywide crisis created by the ongoing gas crisis, and notes that a remedy would take some time to bear fruit. In the meantime, the government is working to find a mid-term solution to the inherent energy crisis created by the ousted Awami League regime.
Hopefully, a positive outcome of the mid-term plan would become visible soon, he noted.
The government acknowledges that it will take time to resolve the problems piled up over 16 years of fascist rule, but assures that it is working at full capacity to bring positive results at the earliest, Mahdi Amin noted.
