Main Accused Sent on Remand Over Savar Officer’s Murder
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Monday placed the prime accused, Jahurul, 32, on a five-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain, 58, at Aminbazar in Savar.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddika passed the order after a hearing, said prosecution department Sub-Inspector Arif Hossain.Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md Zakir Al Ahsan of Savar Model Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced the accused before the court and sought a 10-day remand.During the hearing, defence lawyer Shafiuzzaman Swapan opposed the remand prayer, while the prosecution argued in favour of it. After hearing both sides, the court granted five days’ remand.
According to the case statement, on 5 September, an argument broke out around 7:30pm over a man parking his auto-rickshaw in front of Abul Kalam Azad’s auto garage in Bardebi West Para, Savar.
Altaf Hossain, who went there to stop the argument, came under attack by the accused. The accused along with others attacked him with rods, pipes, hammers and sticks, leaving him critically injured. He had taken shelter at his son Ariful Islam’s business establishment to save his life.
They also attacked Ariful and vandalised the establishment while he was trying to save his father. The injured were later taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Altaf Hossain dead, while his son was admitted in critical condition.
Altaf’s wife, Mst Shuli Parvin, filed the murder case with Savar Police Station over the matter.
