Man to die over killing child after abduction
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Wednesday sentenced a man to death and fined him Tk5 lakh for killing a child after abduction in South Keraniganj area of the capital about one and a half years ago.
The convict, Mokbul Hossain, son of late Ali Hossain, hails from Lakhirchar under Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka district.
Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment after 18 witnesses testified and sent the accused to jail with a conviction warrant.
The court also sentenced him to life imprisonment and fined Tk2 lakh in another charge and ordered that the fines be realised by selling the convict’s assets.
According to the case documents, Tawhid Islam, 10, was a madrasa student who went to visit his uncle’s shop before heading to the madrasa on 10 February last year. While he was walking back home alone, Mokbul Hossain abducted him and demanded ransom from the family.
The victim's uncle left the ransom money at the spot chosen by the abductor the next morning, but Mokbul did not release the child.
Later, the victim's family filed a complaint with RAB, who arrested Mokbul in a raid and later recovered Tawhid’s body from a septic tank of a building in South Keraniganj.
The victim’s mother, Taslima Akhter Begum, filed a murder case with South Keraniganj Police Station following the incident. After investigation, Sub-Inspector AKM Saiduzzaman submitted a charge sheet against Mokbul on 31 July last year.
