Masked individual enters shop and shoots businessman

Gias Rony, Noakhali Correspondent: In Begumganj, Noakhali, a group of armed, masked assailants entered a shop and shot a businessman named Mizanur Rahman, alias Mizan (34).
The incident occurred around 10:15 PM on Saturday (October 17) at 'Mizan Store,' located in Jinu Market, Ward 5 of Amanullapur Union. The wounded businessman was initially taken to the 50-bed Begumganj Upazila Health Complex and subsequently transferred to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was later sent to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment.
Mizan, the victim, is the son of Ahammad Ullah, from the 'Ahammad Ullah's New House' in East Jaynarayanpur village, Ward 6 of Amanullapur Union, Begumganj Upazila. He is a supporter of the local Jamaat-e-Islami.
According to local sources, Mizan was busy attending to customers at his grocery shop on Saturday night when a group of 20–25 armed, masked individuals entered the premises. At one point, the assailants fired at him from close range, striking him on the left side of his abdomen, his left arm, and his left thigh. He collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely, while the assailants quickly fled the scene.
Upon receiving the information, law enforcement personnel visited the site.
Md. Abu Zayed, the Begumganj Upazila Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that Mizan is well-known to them and is a supporter of the organization. He noted that in 2020, the businessman had been attacked by members of the Awami League—an organization now banned—who beat him before handing him over to the police. This time, masked individuals entered his shop and shot him; however, as they were wearing masks, no one could be immediately identified. It is suspected that individuals associated with the banned organization may be involved in the attack.
Md. Shamsuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station, stated that the businessman sustained injuries from pellets. Police visited the scene upon receiving the report and are currently investigating who might be responsible for the attack. Further legal action will be taken once a written complaint is received.
