Messi nears a record that has eluded Ronaldo

BanglaPress Desk: As they approach the twilight of their careers, the rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has reignited. Both players stand before new milestones, but Messi is now within reach of a record that seems, for the moment, beyond even Ronaldo’s grasp: he is on the verge of becoming the first player in history to reach a combined total of 1,400 goals and assists.

In his most recent match for Inter Miami against the New England Revolution, Messi contributed both a goal and an assist. His continued high-level performance—even at the age of 39—has become a major talking point in the football world; he retains not only the ability to score but also the knack for setting up his teammates. Following this latest display, his career tally of goals and assists has reached 1,365.

Trailing him is his long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, with a gap of 119 goal contributions between them.

With his latest goal, Messi’s career tally stands at 937 goals and 428 assists—a combined contribution of 1,365.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo has recorded 985 goals and 261 assists, bringing his total contribution to 1,246.

Messi is currently 119 goal contributions ahead of Ronaldo. He needs just 35 more to reach the milestone of 1,400 career goal contributions—a feat that would make him the first player ever to hit this mark.

Ronaldo recently scored a hat-trick for Al-Nassr against Al-Kholood and continues to lead in total goals scored. However, when combining goals and assists, it is Messi who stands at the very top.
