Misfortune has befallen Additional DIG Tutul Chakraborty.

Bangla Press Desk: Additional DIG Tutul Chakraborty has been dismissed from service on charges of unauthorizedly leaving his duty station before his sanctioned leave began and for using the airport's VIP lounge by falsely identifying himself as the DIG of the Rajshahi Range. He is currently absconding.
This decision was announced in a notification signed by Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The notification was published on Thursday.
According to the notification, while serving as Additional DIG in Rajshahi, Tutul Chakraborty had permission to leave his duty station for two days—November 14 and 15, 2025—and was granted three days of casual leave from November 16 to 18. However, he left his duty station in an unauthorized manner on the morning of November 13 without submitting any departure report.
On that day, he used the VIP lounge at Rajshahi's Shah Makhdum Airport by identifying himself as the DIG of the Rajshahi Range. Later, at 10:20 AM, he departed Rajshahi for Dhaka on a US-Bangla Airlines flight.
The notification states that Tutul Chakraborty had previously come to the attention of various intelligence agencies for using the VIP lounge at Rajshahi Airport on several occasions by falsely claiming to be the DIG of the Rajshahi Range. It was noted that these actions severely tarnished the public image of the police force.
Following this incident, Police Headquarters sent a letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs recommending departmental action against him. Subsequently, a departmental case was filed against him on February 5 of this year, and a show-cause notice was issued in accordance with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
However, he failed to submit a written response within the stipulated timeframe, nor did he apply for an extension. Considering the gravity of the allegations, an investigating officer was appointed on April 2. The investigating officer submitted the inquiry report on May 7, concluding that the allegations of misconduct against Tutul Chakraborty were proven beyond doubt. The report also noted that he has been absconding since January 23. Subsequently, on June 16, he was issued a second show-cause notice asking why he should not be dismissed from service or subjected to other major penalties. However, he failed to provide a response this time as well.
The authorities then made a preliminary decision to impose the major penalty of dismissal from service. Advice regarding this matter was sought from the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) on July 23. On September 14, the PSC opined that the major penalty of dismissal could be imposed.
Finally, the appointing authority, having obtained the President's approval, ratified the decision to dismiss Tutul Chakraborty from service on October 5.
The notification stated that the allegations of misconduct against Tutul Chakraborty have been proven beyond doubt. Additionally, he has been absent from his workplace without authorization since January 23. For these reasons, the major penalty of dismissal from service has been imposed in accordance with the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. This order takes effect immediately.
Tutul Chakraborty joined the police force on May 31, 2001, through the 20th BCS batch. He served as a Joint Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and as an Additional DIG of the Dhaka Range. He was promoted from Superintendent of Police (SP) to Additional DIG on May 31, 2022. He hails from Lakshmipur district. During his career, he served as the SP of Sirajganj and Cumilla, in addition to his role as a Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the DMP. Tutul Chakraborty received the BPM medal during the tenure of the Awami League government. Following the fall of the Awami League government, he fled the country.
