Bangla Press Desk: A partial convener committee has been announced for the ‘Jatiya Swechasebak Shakti’ (National Volunteer Force)—a new affiliate organization of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP).
Md. Mahin Sarkar, a former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has been appointed as the convener of the committee. Jobairul Hasan Arif has been assigned the role of member-secretary. Mohiuddin Rony—who gained prominence in 2022 for his protests against mismanagement within the railway sector—has been appointed as the chief organizer (the third-highest position).
The announcement was made on Monday (October 24) from the NCP’s temporary office, located at Rupayan Trade Center in Banglamotor, Dhaka.
A statement signed by the party’s office secretary, Sadia Farzana Dinar, noted that the committee was formed with the approval of the party’s convener, Md. Nahid Islam, and member-secretary, Akhtar Hossain. The statement further mentioned that the current partial convener committee has been instructed to expand into a full-fledged committee within the next 15 days.
Mohiuddin Rony, the newly appointed chief organizer, rose to public attention in 2022 through his protests against railway mismanagement. On July 7 of that year, he began a sit-in protest at the Kamalapur Railway Station, presenting a six-point demand. His sustained sit-in, which began ahead of Eid-ul-Adha that year, drew significant national attention.
On July 25 of the same year, following a four-hour meeting with senior railway officials—during which he received assurances that his demands would be met—Rony suspended his protest. He officially joined the NCP this past April.
