Bangla Press Desk: The police have recovered 300,000 Taka belonging to cricketer SM Mehrab Hasan, which had been stolen from a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) covered van.
Sabina Yasmin, Additional Superintendent of Police and spokesperson for the Rajshahi District Police, confirmed this information on Friday (October 16) at 10:00 PM.
She stated that one of the four individuals arrested in connection with the theft, Mozammel Haque, revealed that the 300,000 Taka—taken from the stolen luggage—was kept at his rented residence. Subsequently, a team from the police’s Detective Branch (DB) recovered the money from a drawer in a dressing table at his home in the Kazla Mridhapara area of Rajshahi city.
Following the conclusion of the National Cricket League, the divisional cricket team returned to Rajshahi from Dhaka on Wednesday. Their 54 pieces of luggage were transported via a covered van. Upon unloading the items the next morning, it was discovered that eight pieces of luggage were missing. Mehrab Hasan filed a General Diary (GD) with the police regarding the incident.
Following an operation in the early hours of Thursday, the police arrested four individuals. They had managed to board the moving covered van on a motorcycle in the Puthia area of Rajshahi, broken the lock on the door, and removed the eight pieces of luggage. The police recovered the luggage, but while other belongings were found, the money was initially missing.
A case was filed, and the accused were sent to jail by the court on Thursday. One of the accused, Rubel Ahmed (38), provided a confessional statement in court. Police official Sabina Yasmin added that efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals involved with this criminal group.
