Motorcyclist pastes envelope on Tarique Rahman’s car, flees
Bangla Press Desk: A motorcyclist pasted a white envelope on the moving bulletproof car of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman in the capital’s Gulshan on Wednesday (14 January) night and fled the scene, police said.
The incident took place around 11:40pm on Road No. 65 in Gulshan.
Police have launched a probe into the matter on their own initiative, though the motorcyclist has yet to be identified.
Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Gulshan Police Station, said a person riding a motorcycle suddenly approached Tarique Rahman’s moving vehicle and attached a piece of paper to it using tape before speeding away.
Police said the envelope contained no written message. The motorcycle was identified as a white Hero Hunk.
At the time of the incident, members of the vehicle convoy’s own security force (CSF) were present. However, no general diary (GD) was filed by the BNP following the incident.
After learning about the matter, police themselves lodged a GD and began investigating the incident.
An investigation officer said CCTV footage from the surrounding area have been collected. The footage shows a motorcyclist approaching the car, attaching the paper and fleeing immediately. However, due to poor video quality, the rider’s identity could not be clearly determined.
Police said efforts are underway to identify the motorcyclist and the vehicle by analysing the footage and other available information. Legal action will be taken if new information emerges.
