MP Mannan Highlights Trees’ Role in Protecting Environment and Lives
Bangla Press Desk: Narayanganj-3 Member of Parliament (MP) Azharul Islam Mannan announced a programme to plant two lakh trees across Sonargaon Upazila, aligning with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s nationwide initiative to plant 25 crore trees over the next five years.
Speaking as the chief guest at the launch of the ‘One Student, One Tree’ programme at Sonargaon Upazila Stadium on Monday (6 July), Mannan said the initiative aims to protect the environment, combat climate change and help build a greener Bangladesh.
“We have undertaken a programme to plant two lakh trees in Sonargaon in line with the Prime Minister's ambitious initiative to plant 25 crore trees across the country over the next five years,” he said.
Addressing students, the lawmaker urged them to plant and care for the saplings they received.
“I encourage every student to plant today’s sapling carefully at home. One day these trees will provide us with oxygen, sustain life and help protect our beloved country from natural disasters,” he said.
Mannan also said the people of Sonargaon would work together to implement every environmental initiative undertaken by the Prime Minister alongside the country’s development efforts.
“Maintaining ecological balance is our moral responsibility if we are to build a healthy and prosperous future generation,” he added.
The programme, chaired by Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Raihan Kabir, was formally inaugurated through the distribution of saplings among students.
Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of placing a tree in the hands of every student to encourage environmental awareness and foster responsible citizenship from an early age.
Later the same day, Mannan laid the foundation stone for a new road in the Meghna Industrial City area and inaugurated development works at the historic Baidder Bazar Ghat.
