“My job is to assist wherever needed,” says Salahuddin
Bangla Press Desk:  Mohammad Salahuddin, the senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh men’s national cricket team, has said he is ready to perform in any role the team assigns him. Salahuddin has been serving in this role since November 2024 and has taken on multiple responsibilities, including acting as the team’s de facto batting coach in recent months. Speaking to Daily Sun on Monday, Salahuddin addressed the observation that he is often seen across various training activities during team practice sessions. “That’s because I’m the assistant. The bowling coach looks after the bowlers, the spin coach handles the spinners—everyone has their own specific role,” he said. “My job is to assist wherever needed. The head coach is also fully aware of how we work.”
He was also asked about his additional responsibilities. “‘Senior assistant coach’ and ‘batting coach’ are two distinct roles. But at the end of the day, whatever responsibility is given to me—even if it’s spin bowling coach—I believe I should fulfill it,” he said. “In the past, I’ve served both as a spin bowling coach and a batting coach for the national team. Since there is currently no specialist batting coach, I’ve been given that responsibility in addition to my existing role.” Salahuddin explained that his duties go beyond coaching as well. “As a senior assistant coach, I believe I have a strong sense of work ethics. My responsibility is to support and implement the head coach’s philosophy. I act as a bridge between the head coach, the players, and the foreign coaching staff. I play a key role in ensuring that everyone is aligned with the head coach’s vision,” he said.
“I also coordinate among the board, players, and coaching staff. So, in addition to coaching, I handle several off-field responsibilities as well. But I’m enjoying every part of it. The head coach has given me enough freedom to operate. As a Bangladeshi, I understand the players well, which helps in managing and guiding them,” Salahuddin concluded.
