Myanmar junta regains control of key areas on Mandalay-Shan border

Bangla Press Desk:   Myanmar’s military announced on Saturday that it has retaken control of the Sedawgyi Dam, a command headquarters, and surrounding areas along the border between Mandalay Region’s Madaya Township and Shan State.

According to a statement issued by the junta, the operation to recapture the area began on 20 October, with five army columns advancing from multiple directions. The military claimed full control on 7 November after nearly three weeks of fighting.

The statement said that 42 clashes took place during the offensive, resulting in 14 bodies recovered and the seizure of over 60 weapons and other military equipment. The junta also acknowledged that some of its own soldiers were killed in the fighting.

The Sedawgyi Dam area has been a key battleground as part of the military’s broader campaign to regain territory lost to anti-regime resistance forces. Earlier this year, the junta recaptured the Phayaung Taung gold mine on 24 August and the Alpha Cement Plant on 28 August during similar operations in Madaya Township.
