Nahida is the new captain of the T20 team
Bangla Press Desk: Nahida Akter has been named the new captain of the Bangladesh women’s T20 team. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed the left-arm spinner to the role for a one-year term, while Sobhana Mostary has been named vice-captain. The BCB announced these appointments in a statement on Sunday.
Nahida, 26, takes over the leadership following the recent resignation of Nigar Sultana Joty. Nahida is the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in women’s T20 cricket; since her international debut in 2015, she has played 113 T20 matches and claimed 132 wickets. Among bowlers from ICC Full Member nations, she currently ranks fifth in terms of wickets taken in this format.
Meanwhile, 24-year-old Sobhana Mostary has also taken on a new responsibility. Since her international T20 debut in 2019, she has played 72 matches for Bangladesh.
She has also surpassed 1,000 runs in this format, becoming the third Bangladeshi batter to reach the 1,000-run milestone in women’s T20 cricket—a feat previously achieved by Nigar Sultana and Farzana Hoque.
The first challenge for the new captain and vice-captain will be the ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy, scheduled to take place from November 12 to 25, in which Bangladesh is set to participate.
