Nazmul declares Pakistan ODI series a ‘new beginning’
Bangla Press Desk : Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Nazmul Abedeen Fahim described the upcoming home One Day International series against Pakistan as a “new beginning” for Bangladesh, as the side begins preparations for the next 50-over World Cup.
Speaking during the team’s first training session at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday, Nazmul emphasised that Bangladesh’s primary focus has now shifted toward the 50-over format with the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in mind.“The format we have been playing all this time, and the World Cup was in that format, is now over,” said Nazmul. “Moving forward, our main focus will definitely be on 50-over matches, keeping the 2027 World Cup in mind. So, in one way, this is certainly a new beginning.”
However, Bangladesh last played an ODI series in October 2025, when they hosted the West Indies in a three-match series at home. Under the captaincy of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh secured a 2–1 series victory.
During that series, Soumya Sarkar emerged as the top run-scorer with 140 runs, while leg-spinner Rishad Hossain led the bowling chart with 12 wickets across the three matches.
Since that series, the Tigers have not played any ODIs, making the upcoming contest against Pakistan a significant step in restarting Bangladesh’s preparations for the upcoming ODI World Cup.
