NCP leader Akhter granted bail in two cases
Bangla Press Desk: Two Dhaka courts on Sunday granted bail to National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, in two separate cases filed with Shahbagh Police Station on charges of attempted murder, unlawful assembly, and obstruction of government duties.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid and Jashita Islam passed the order after he appeared before the court and pleaded for bail.
Confirming the development, Akhter Hossen’s lawyer Md Mujahidul Islam said the two courts granted him bail on bonds of Tk500 and Tk1,000 respectively after the hearing.
Before the hearing, Akhter Hossen told the media that a total of six cases had been filed against him during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, of which he has been acquitted in four cases, and in the remaining two he surrendered on Sunday.
Three separate cases were filed against Akhter Hossen with Shahbagh Police Station in 2021 in connection with protests against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh.
He was detained and shown arrested in two cases the following month while distributing iftar items during Ramadan in the Dhaka University area.
In these cases, he was accused of attempted murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, and obstructing government duties.
