New Demonstration Planned as Ganatantrik Juktafront Raises Demands
Bangla Press Desk: Ganatantrik Juktafront, an alliance of left-leaning political parties, has announced a protest rally in front of the Ministry of Industries on Tuesday, alleging that the government is planning to sell 44 state-owned industrial enterprises to private owners.
According to a press release issued on Monday, the alliance claimed that a meeting is scheduled to be held at the ministry in Motijheel at 11am to discuss the proposed sale of the state-owned enterprises.
The Juktafront alleged that the meeting will be attended by the executive chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), secretaries of different ministries, chairmen of five state-owned corporations, and representatives of five industrial groups.
Describing the alleged move as a “people’s asset grab” and an “anti-public conspiracy,” the alliance said it will stage a protest rally outside the ministry at the same time to oppose the initiative.
The alliance’s coordinator and general secretary of the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Basad), Bazlur Rashid Firoz, called on leaders and activists of the parties under the alliance, as well as patriotic citizens, to join the demonstration and make the programme a success.
The information was disclosed in the press release signed by Rajekuzzaman Ratan, assistant general secretary of the Basad Central Committee.
