Neymar nets twice as Santos sink Juventude
Bangla Press Desk:   Neymar’s road to redemption ahead of next year’s World Cup gathered steam as the Brazilian superstar netted a brace for Santos in a 3–1 win over Juventude in the Brazilian Serie A. It was a milestone outing for the 33-year-old, who made his fifth consecutive start for the first time since August 2022 — and delivered a standout performance. Santos, Neymar’s boyhood club, took the lead in the 37th minute through the forward's opening goal. Just three minutes later, Alvaro Barreal doubled the advantage. Although Juventude pulled one back before half-time, Santos held firm. Neymar sealed the win with his second goal of the match from the penalty spot in the 80th minute. The victory ended a three-match winless streak for Santos, who had suffered two losses and a draw in their previous three games. With 18 points from 17 matches, the club currently sits 15th on the league table. Neymar is fighting to regain his place in the Brazilian national team following a long injury layoff. He suffered a serious knee ligament injury against Uruguay in October 2023, which sidelined him for months. Earlier this year, he parted ways with Saudi club Al Hilal and returned to Santos in a bid to rediscover form and fitness.
Following the match, Neymar said: “Everyone knows what I’m capable of. I feel good, I’m ready to play. Now it’s up to the Brazil staff whether they call me or not.” With national team coach Carlo Ancelotti watching closely, Neymar’s resurgence could not have come at a better time. His double against Juventude was a timely reminder of his enduring class and hunger to wear the Selecao shirt once more. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
