No one flees if they truly love their country: Jamaat Ameer
Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, Dr Shafiqur Rahman, stated that anyone who genuinely loves their country and its people would never flee it. He made the remark yesterday at the launch of the book Maulana Abdus Subhan (R): From the Grassroots to the Top, held at the National Press Club. Quoting the late party leader Mir Quasem Ali, Dr Rahman said, “He was in the United States. Some of his friends had advised him not to return to Bangladesh. They warned him that he could face the same fate as others. But he replied, ‘Even if I stand at death’s door, I will say that the allegations against me are false.’” Dr Rahman added that Mir Quasem Ali deeply loved his country and its people, and that is why he returned, knowing the risks. Reflecting on the legacy of Maulana Subhan, the Jamaat Ameer said such figures never truly disappear. “To my fellow political colleagues, I urge you to learn from them,” he said. Addressing party workers, he stressed the need to emulate Maulana Subhan’s generosity and courage, noting, “For the sake of the nation, we must unite beyond party lines. One individual may be defeated, but if united, the nation will prevail.”
Courtesy Meeting with Chatham House Fellow Later in the day, Dr Shafiqur Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Patrick Schroeder, Senior Fellow at Chatham House, UK, and his local research associate Mamunur Rahman. The meeting took place at Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office in Dhaka. During the meeting, Dr Rahman invited foreign investment in Bangladesh and discussed a range of issues including mutual cooperation, democratic development, women's rights, climate change, circular economy, and sustaining future trade ties with the UK. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Ameer and former MP Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and Sussex alumnus Ali Ahmed Tahqiq also present at the meeting.
