Bangla Press Desk: Following South Korea's hypersonic missile test, North Korea has now launched multiple ballistic missiles towards the sea. South Korea's military reported that these missiles were fired towards the waters off the country's east coast on Monday (October 12). Seoul views this incident as an attempt to demonstrate military might.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) stated that one missile, launched from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, traveled a distance of over 900 kilometers. However, military authorities did not disclose the total number of missiles launched.
Japan's Coast Guard reported the launch of two unidentified objects from North Korea, believed to be ballistic missiles. The agency indicated that the objects likely fell into the sea.
The South Korean presidential office stated that North Korea's series of missile launches violate UN Security Council resolutions. Seoul has urged Pyongyang to immediately halt such activities.
South Korean military officials believe North Korea may have taken this step in response to the recent hypersonic missile test.
Jang Do-young, a spokesperson for South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that North Korea's latest missile launch appears to be a show of force following South Korea's test launch of a hypersonic missile.
Last Thursday, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung witnessed the test launch of the country's first hypersonic missile. It is rare for a South Korean president to be present at such a missile test.
The presidential office stated that once fully developed, this weapon would enhance the capability to launch surprise attacks on key targets during a potential military conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
Earlier, on October 3, North Korea had also tested a hypersonic medium-range missile. The weapon is believed to have been developed with the aim of enhancing the capability to evade the missile defense systems of South Korea and Japan. Source: AP and Reuters.
