Bangla Press Desk: Yashat Shahriar Opratim, the 13-year-old son of a Cumilla University teacher who was found dead in a jungle in Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Saturday, was laid to rest on Sunday.
He was buried at the family graveyard following his second namaz-e-janaza at Gondamati Eidgah in Kotbari of the upazila.
Earlier, his first janaza was held at the Comilla University campus around 10:00am, where his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, broke down in tears while speaking before the prayer.
“Opratim grew up with your affection and love. If he has ever hurt anyone, please forgive him,” his father said, repeatedly breaking down while speaking.
His emotional address left many of the mourners in tears.
Teachers, students, officials and employees of the university and local residents gathered on the university campus to have a last glimpse of the boy and mourn his death.
Opratim, the only son of Firoz Shahriar and Dr Nahida Begum, an associate professor of the Department of Bangla at Comilla University, found dead in a jungle in the Kotbari area on Saturday.
Opratim, a seventh-grade student at Cumilla Border Guard Public School, left his home in the area around 3:30pm on Friday, carrying his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with his friends.
However, he did not return home, prompting his family to search for him and his father to file a general diary with Sadar Dakkhin Police Station.
Meanwhile, police detained three people -- Tuhin, Anas and Fahim -- for questioning in connection with the death.
