Osmani Udyan to reopen after 10 years; Prime Minister to inaugurate it on October 19.
Bangla Press Desk: Prime Minister Tareq Rahman will formally inaugurate the modernized historic Osmani Udyan—renovated at a cost of approximately Tk 50 crore by the Dhaka South City Corporation—and the newly constructed ‘July Memorial’ located there on October 19.
Following the inauguration and a gathering of dignitaries, the park will be opened to the general public on the same day.
State Minister Shahe Alam disclosed this information today, Sunday, while presiding over a preparatory meeting regarding the modernization of Osmani Udyan and the inauguration of the July Memorial, held at the conference room of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives at the Secretariat.
He stated that after remaining closed for nearly a decade, city residents will finally be able to use this aesthetically pleasing park. A special ‘July Memorial’ has been constructed within the park to honor the martyrs and heroes of the July uprising; this will provide visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the historic student-led mass revolution of July-August and the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
The State Minister noted that the revamped park features walkways, facilities for families to spend time together, a restaurant, a modern library, designated play areas for children, artificial fountains, and pleasant water features.
Furthermore, the Dhaka South City Corporation is working tirelessly, day and night, to enhance the beauty of this significant location—situated adjacent to the Secretariat—and to maintain a pleasant environment.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Abdus Salam, the Secretary of the Local Government Division, other senior officials, and representatives from relevant agencies were present at the preparatory meeting.
