Over 16,000 Police Deployed for Idol Immersion at 33 Dhaka Locations

Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Joint Commissioner (Operations) Md Shahidullah has said the highest level of security has been arranged across the capital for idol immersion. More than 16,000 police personnel have been deployed at various locations to ensure the smooth completion of the immersion ceremonies. This year, idols will be immersed at 33 locations across Dhaka, with the largest number of immersions expected at Wiseghat.

He made the remarks while briefing journalists at Palashi intersection on Wednesday about preparations for the idol immersion ceremonies.

The joint commissioner said more than 16,000 police personnel had been deployed at different locations across the capital. Idol immersion ceremonies will take place at 33 points, with Wiseghat expected to host the largest number.

Shahidullah said a procession would begin at Dhakeshwari National Temple and end at Wiseghat, where the idol immersion ceremonies would take place. Idols were already being brought to designated locations for the procession, which was expected to begin shortly.

Regarding security arrangements, he said uniformed DMP personnel would be deployed alongside members of the Detective Branch (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), the Special Response Unit (SRU), SWAT and the Bomb Disposal Unit. Members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and SRB would also be responsible for security.

He further said Durga Puja was being celebrated in Dhaka this year under the highest level of security. No untoward incidents had been reported so far, he said, expressing hope that no adverse incidents would occur during the remaining festivities.

The DMP official added that police were fully prepared to respond to any untoward situation and had taken all necessary measures.

Calling on residents of Dhaka, Shahidullah urged everyone to cooperate in ensuring that the celebrations concluded peacefully and in a festive atmosphere. He sought the public’s cooperation throughout the process of completing the Puja festivities with the immersion of the idols.
