Over 50 villages in Chandpur celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr today
Bangla Press Desk: Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated on Friday in more than 50 villages of Chandpur, in line with Arab countries, continuing a long-standing tradition.
The early Eid observance is mainly taking place in the Sadra Darbar Sharif area of Hajiganj upazila and its surrounding villages. The main Eid congregation was held at 9:00 am at the Sadra Darbar Sharif field, led by Pirzada Allama Zakaria Chowdhury Al-Madani.
Another congregation was held at the Sadra Hamidia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa ground, where Pirzada Arifullah Chowdhury led the prayers.
Speaking on the occasion, Pirzada Arifullah Chowdhury said that since 1928, they have been observing Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha in line with parts of the Muslim world, with only a few hours’ difference.
He added that while participation was initially limited, the practice has now spread to several districts across the country.
A devotee of Sadra Darbar Sharif, Monayem Hossain, said that reports of moon sightings in countries like Afghanistan and Mali were carefully reviewed but found questionable. As a result, they completed 30 days of Ramadan before celebrating Eid.
The villages observing early Eid include areas in Hajiganj, Faridganj, Matlab and parts of Kachua upazilas.
The tradition was introduced in 1928 by the late Pir Maulana Ishaq, following Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries. His followers have continued the practice in Chandpur and beyond.Source: daily Sun
