Bangla Press Desk: The process of publishing the much-awaited ninth national pay scale gazette for government employees has reached its final stage. The government wants to resolve all the complications quickly and issue the gazette by the second week of September.
To this end, preparations are underway to submit the proposal for the pay scale to the cabinet in early September.
According to the government's plan, government employees can get their salaries according to the new structure from October. However, the pay scale will be effective from July 1 of this year. As a result, the salaries for July, August and September can be recalculated according to the new structure and the outstanding amount can be adjusted later.
It is learned that the gazette of the ninth pay scale may be issued by next Thursday. The proposed new pay structure may be taken up for approval in the cabinet meeting on next Monday. If approved on that day, the relevant sources said that the notification may be issued by the Ministry of Finance by next Thursday.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, the work of issuing the notification of the new pay structure is in the final stage.
Preparations are underway to include it in the agenda of the cabinet meeting on next Monday and present it for approval. If approved, the notification may be issued by Thursday. However, it is not known what the rate of salary and allowance increase will be in the final draft prepared for cabinet approval.
Earlier on August 16, the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar told reporters that the new pay scale for government employees is in the final stage. It can be announced at any time.
On July 29, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that work is underway to implement the recommendations of the Ninth Pay Commission for government employees. Once the work is completed, it will be presented to the cabinet as soon as possible. He also said that the process of issuing the notification will start after the cabinet approval.
A 10-member secretarial committee was formed on April 21 with Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani as the chairman to recommend the implementation of the new salary structure. The committee has already submitted its recommendations.
It is learned that the secretarial committee has recommended a maximum increase of 100 percent in the basic salary of government employees from grades 1 to 20. It is proposed to implement this in two phases. It has been said that the basic salary will be implemented in the first year and the house rent and other allowances in the second year.
While presenting the budget in the National Parliament on June 11, the Finance Minister had said that the new salary structure of government employees will be implemented from July 1.
In his budget speech, he said that government employees have been receiving salaries and allowances in the same salary structure for almost 11 years. During this time, the cost of living has increased significantly due to inflation. For this reason, initiatives have been taken to implement the new salary structure in a phased manner from July 1.
Meanwhile, the e-book titled '180 Days of the People's Government' published on the occasion of the government's 180 days has also highlighted the issue of implementing the ninth pay scale. It says in the section titled 'Ninth Pay Scale: Big Good News for Government Employees' that 89,836 crore taka has been allocated for salaries and allowances in the 2026-27 fiscal year and a total of 1,41,434 crore taka including pension and gratuity has been allocated.
