PM Heads to Maheshkhali to Review Deep-Sea Port, Visit Flood-Hit Ctg
Bangla Press Desk: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left Dhaka by helicopter on Sunday morning for Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar to inspect the Matarbari deep-sea port and the coal-fired power project and review ongoing development activities.
The helicopter carrying the Prime Minister left Tejgaon Airport around 9:15am, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon told UNB.
During the visit, Tarique Rahman will inspect the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-fired power project and the activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority, he said.
He will then visit Banshkhali and Hathazari upazilas in Chattogram to meet people affected by the recent floods and join programmes for their rehabilitation, including the distribution of new homes.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit will accompany the Prime Minister to Matarbari.
According to his itinerary, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the Matarbari deep-sea port, the coal-fired power project, and the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority around 10:30am.
At around 12:20pm, he will attend a rehabilitation programme for recent flood victims at the West Banshkhali High School and College ground in Baharchhara union of Banshkhali.
Tarique Rahman will visit Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasah in Fatikchhari at 2pm and meet Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari.
He will visit Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Moinul Islam in Hathazari around 3:15pm, and pay respects at the grave of late Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi.
The Prime Minister will take a short break at the Hathazari Dak Bungalow around 3:45pm before attending another flood rehabilitation programme at the Hathazari Government College ground at 5:00pm.
In the evening, Tarique Rahman, who is also BNP chairman, will attend an organisational meeting at the Radisson Blu Chattogram at 7:15pm.He will travel by helicopter from Dhaka to Maheshkhali, then by road from Fatikchhari to Chattogram, Rumon said.
After completing all scheduled programmes, the Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka by air from Shah Amanat International Airport at around 9:30pm.
Although Tarique Rahman has previously visited Cox’s Bazar, this is his first visit to Maheshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari since taking office.
