PM Tarique heads to Feni

Bangla Press Desk:  Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has left for Feni.

His motorcade departed from his residence in Dhaka’s Gulshan at 8:36am on Thursday, according to his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.

He said, “The honourable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is going to Feni. His motorcade has left his residence in Gulshan and is now crossing the capital.”

“The prime minister will return to Dhaka in the evening after completing his scheduled day-long programme in Feni.”

Tarique’s maternal grandfather, Eskandar Majumdar, hailed from Majumdar Bari in Sripur village in Feni’s Fulgazi Upazila.

Feni-1 was also the constituency of his mother, Khaleda Zia. She was elected as a member of parliament from the constituency several times since 1991. As a result, the seat holds a special place in the memories of people in the area. The slogan, “Our leader is Khaleda, our pride is unparalleled,” is still frequently heard among BNP leaders and activists in the area.

Prime Minister’s Programme

At 12:30pm, the prime minister will inaugurate the “Mahuri-Kahua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Rehabilitation (Phase I) Project” at the Keyaghat-Mahuri Bridge area in Parshuram Upazila.

He will inaugurate a tree-planting programme on the premises of Fulgazi Begum Khaleda Zia Women’s College at 1:30pm.

The prime minister will inaugurate the transfer of electricity to the national grid from the rooftop solar power system installed at the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow at 2pm.

At 3:30pm, Tarique will attend a ceremony at the Fulgazi Government Pilot School field to distribute Family Cards, Farmer Cards and honorariums to Imams, Muezzins and people from other religious communities.

At noon, the prime minister will offer Zuhr prayers and have lunch at the Fulgazi Dak Bungalow.

This is Tarique Rahman’s first visit to Feni since the BNP won a majority in the 13th parliamentary election and he assumed the office of prime minister.

Earlier, as part of the parliamentary election campaign, Tarique addressed an election rally at the Feni Pilot School field on Jan 25 while travelling from Chattogram to Dhaka.
