Staff Reporter: Preparations are under way for the inauguration of new President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris amid a state of emergency in the US capital, Washington DC. A major sabotage incident is expected across the United States around the inauguration of new President Joseph Biden on January 20. Alerts are everywhere. President Donald Trump has already approved a state of emergency. The White House press secretary's office said in a statement on Monday.
President Trump on Monday issued an emergency declaration for Washington D.C. to boost security ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20.
The order, which is in effect from Monday to January 24, allows the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency to work with local authorities as needed.
It comes five days after a mob of the president’s supporters stormed the US Capitol as Congress began formally counting the Electoral College votes to certify Biden’s win. Five people died during the riot.
Local and federal authorities have expressed concern about more violence erupting in the leadup to and during Biden’s inauguration.
An FBI memo reportedly warned that armed protests are expected at all 50 state capitols plus D.C., from this week through Inauguration Day.
Earlier on Monday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser urged Americans to stay away from inaugural events and requested an emergency declaration to beef up security in the nation’s capital.
