Prince Levels Criticism at Jamaat, NCP Over July Uprising

Bangla Press Desk:  BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Emran Saleh Prince on Friday accused leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party (NCP) of undermining the spirit of the July mass uprising through what he described as "divisive politics," alleging that their provocative statements and misinformation were creating political instability.

Prince made the remarks while addressing a preparatory meeting of the Dhobaura upazila BNP and its affiliated bodies ahead of programmes marking July Mass Uprising Day.

He alleged that opposition leaders were attempting to create unrest through personal attacks, inflammatory rhetoric and political confrontation, citing recent clashes in different parts of the country, including Habiganj. He blamed what he called irresponsible and provocative remarks by some opposition leaders for the tensions.

Defending Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Prince said the government had begun implementing the party's pledges, including its 31-point reform agenda, and that people had already started benefiting from its initiatives.Criticising recent comments by NCP leaders, Prince said the BNP does not engage in politics by exploiting the legacy of Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia, religion or the spirit of the July movement. Instead, he said, the party's politics is based on democracy, justice, voting rights, public welfare and Bangladeshi nationalism.

He also called on party leaders and activists to ensure that programmes marking July Mass Uprising Day remain peaceful, disciplined and inclusive, avoiding provocation while strengthening public confidence in the party.

The meeting, chaired by Dhobaura upazila BNP Convener Professor Azharul Islam Kajol, also decided to organise a victory rally and a reception for the families of those killed and participants of the July uprising on 6 August.
