Purbachal Plot Scam: Verdict in case against Hasina, Tulip, 16 others on 2 Feb
Bangla Press Desk: A Dhaka court on Tuesday set 2 February for pronouncing the judgment in a case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her nieces Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, and 15 others, filed over alleged plot allocation irregularities in the Purbachal New Town Project of RAJUK.
Judge Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 passed the order after the arguments in the case concluded, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Public Prosecutor Mir Ahammed Ali Salam confirmed.
Earlier, on 5 January, the court brought the testimony in the case to an end as the investigation officer, ACC Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya, testified and was cross-examined earlier that day. A total of 31 witnesses testified in the case.
The ACC filed the case against 16 people on 13 January 2025 and submitted a charge sheet on 10 March against 18 accused.
The ACC filed six cases in January 2024, accusing members of the Sheikh family and several government and RAJUK officials of irregularities in allocating plots in the Purbachal New Town Project.
On 1 July, the court ordered the publication of a gazette notification summoning around 100 accused persons across the six cases. On 31 July, charges were formally framed, and arrest warrants were issued for those absconding.
