BanglaPress Desk: Actress Rashmika Mandanna has taken up the responsibility of covering the cost of essential commodities for 400 families in South India. She announced her support for these families through a humanitarian initiative named ‘Project Annapurna’ and stated her intention to continue this activity for the next year.
Rashmika recently shared details of this initiative in a video posted on social media. She explained that she would cover the cost of essentials for the 400 families in three-month cycles. She hopes this will allow the families to save money otherwise spent on groceries and help them plan for the future.
According to a report by the Indian media outlet *The Wall*, the initiative provides each family with 75 kg of rice, 10 kg of wheat flour, 3 kg of ragi, 10 liters of cooking oil, 15 kg of lentils (dal), 3 kg of sugar, and 3 kg of salt. Additionally, various spices and other essential items will be provided.
Rashmika also drew a parallel between this initiative and the character ‘Jayamma’—whom she portrays in her upcoming film *Ranabali*—noting that the characters an artist plays often influence their personal life.
When asked if her personality resembles that of Jayamma, Rashmika replied that such humanitarian work is simply a part of her nature.
The actress mentioned that she had not previously publicized these activities, keeping them limited to her team and a few close associates. However, she now believes her initiative could inspire others to engage in good deeds, which prompted her decision to go public with it.
Rashmika said, "Even a small act of kindness can bring about change in someone's life. You don't need to do something massive for that. Let’s start with something small."
Notably, Vijay Deverakonda plays the lead role alongside Rashmika in her new film *Ranabali*, where she appears as Jayamma. This film marks the on-screen reunion of the duo. Set against the backdrop of South India in the 1870s, the film’s narrative unfolds amidst the Great Famine of 1876–1878. The story revolves around a rebel warrior’s fight to protect his land and people while resisting colonial rule. Vijay plays the character of Ranabali, while Rashmika portrays Jayamma—his wife and partner in the struggle. Source: NDTV
