Regulatory body begins inspection to assess preparations for power generation at Rooppur.

Bangla Press Desk: The Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) has initiated inspection activities as part of the preparations and safety verification for the commencement of power generation at Unit-1 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP).
The inspection process officially began on Sunday morning (October 11) with a meeting held at the training center auditorium of the Rooppur project. Representatives from the Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL), relevant experts, and VO-Safety specialists participated in the meeting.
Through this inspection, various technical, operational, safety, and preparatory aspects will be reviewed and verified prior to the start of power generation at Rooppur Unit-1. The scope of the inspection also covers relevant systems, documentation, operational readiness, and the implementation of safety measures.
This BAERA inspection is scheduled to run from October 11 to October 17, 2026. Following the inspection, the relevant findings will be evaluated, and the necessary regulatory procedures for the next phase will be completed.
Rooppur Unit-1 successfully achieved reactor criticality at 3:34 PM on October 11. This BAERA inspection represents a crucial regulatory milestone in the preparations to advance to the next stage of increasing power generation capacity following the achievement of criticality.
Safety is being accorded the highest priority in the commissioning activities of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. All relevant tests, inspections, and subsequent activities will be conducted in accordance with approved procedures and the directives of the regulatory body.
