Rishad Praises Australian Cricket’s ‘Different Level’ After Big Bash Experience

Bangla Press Desk: Bangladesh leg-spinner Rishad Hossain has described his maiden Big Bash League experience as an eye-opening journey, saying Australian cricket operates on “a different level” compared to Bangladesh and the subcontinent.
Rishad, who played almost every match for Hobart Hurricanes in his first BBL season, said the contrast in conditions and overall environment was striking.
“Conditions in Bangladesh and Australia are very different,” he told reporters after the win against Duronto XI at Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026. “The pitches, the bowling, the entire playing environment — it’s on a different level. I don’t think there’s a higher level than that.”
The 23-year-old said the two-month exposure to Australian cricket had given him far more than could be explained in a single press conference.
“So many things can’t be said in one day or even two months,” he said. “You will understand everything gradually.”
Rishad also found himself rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in world cricket, but said what impressed him most was not their fame — but their humility.
“They are very friendly, and there is a lot to learn from them,” he said. “What impressed me most is their humility. No matter how big a cricketer they are, they treat everyone equally. They don’t see someone as big or small.”
He said that attitude was something he hoped to carry forward in his own career.
“I liked that a lot, and I will try to follow that.”
Rishad confirmed that he had regular interactions with Ricky Ponting, who is part of the Hobart Hurricanes setup, but played down any talk of special guidance.
“We meet every day because we are in the same team,” he said. “We talked and shared many things.”
Despite being exposed to elite skills and high-pressure situations, Rishad believes the key difference lies less in technique and more in mindset.
“Skill-wise, everyone is more or less similar,” he said. “Mentality and a good environment are the most important things.”
Rishad said he was satisfied with his performances in his debut Big Bash season, where he became only the second Bangladeshi after Shakib Al Hasan to feature in the tournament.
“I am satisfied,” he said.
Looking back on the difficult phase earlier in his career, when he struggled for opportunities, Rishad said that period ultimately helped shape him.
“When I wasn’t playing, that was a big learning phase for me,” he said. “I experienced many things. That time helped me build myself.”
