Bangla Press Desk: One person was killed and several others injured in a roller coaster accident at an amusement park in the US state of Georgia. This tragic incident occurred at the ‘Six Flags Over Georgia’ amusement park, located approximately 24 kilometers from Atlanta.
Following the incident, the local Cobb County Police Department has launched an investigation.
The BBC reported that although the police did not explicitly name the ride involved in the accident, helicopter footage showed the park’s massive ‘Goliath’ roller coaster stuck mid-ride, with workers attempting to bring down the stranded passengers.
Eyewitnesses at the scene told local media that they saw a person being thrown from the moving ride.
A report by local media outlet 11Alive, citing an eyewitness, stated that the individual was flung from the roller coaster and landed on the roof of a haunted house attraction. However, the BBC could not independently verify this information, and officials have not yet released details regarding the exact cause of death.
In a statement following the accident, ‘Six Flags Over Georgia’ authorities said, "We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving a guest at our park today. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased."
A park spokesperson stated that rescue teams and local authorities responded promptly and are fully cooperating with the police investigation. Coordination with law enforcement is also being facilitated through the Mableton Mayor's office.
According to the park's website, the 200-foot-tall ‘Goliath’ roller coaster, which opened in 2006, can reach speeds of approximately 112 kilometers per hour. It is classified as a high-intensity thrill ride on the park's ‘Thrill Scale.’ Notably, ‘Six Flags’ is the largest amusement park operator in North America. Just a few weeks earlier, the ‘X2’ roller coaster at another of their parks in Southern California was shut down following allegations that it caused brain injuries to riders.
