Sayedabad bus terminal relocation to Kanchpur on the cards
Bangla Press Desk: Dhaka South City Corporation administrator Md Abdus Salam said on Wednesday long-distance buses now operating from the Sayedabad Bus Terminal will soon be relocated to Kanchpur to ease traffic jam in the capital and bring discipline to the public transport system.
He made the comments while inspecting the progress in construction work on the Kanchpur Bus Terminal.
"Construction of the terminal at Kanchpur is being expedited to implement the Prime Minister's directives on modernising the traffic management system in Dhaka," he said.
He said initially, temporary sheds will be constructed to relocate the long-distance buses linking 16 districts including Chattogram, Sylhet, Cumilla and Noakhali from Sayedabad to Kanchpur.
Permanent infrastructure will be developed at the site later.
"The relocation would significantly reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka as long-distance buses would no longer need to enter the main city," he said. Mr Abdus Salam said the DSCC is planning to introduce a special shuttle service in consultation with transport owners to facilitate the passengers travelling between Kanchpur and Sayedabad. He also said an initiative has been taken to relocate the Gulistan Bus Terminal to the other side of the Buriganga River. He said the land acquisition process is currently underway.
