Schoolgirl killed by bullet fired from Myanmar in Teknaf
Bangla Press Desk : A schoolgirl was killed after being hit by a bullet reportedly fired from Myanmar side at the Hwaikyang border in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning.
The victim, identified as Afnan Ara, 10, was the daughter of Jasim Uddin of the Hwaikyang Techchi bridge area. She was a fourth-grade student at Lumbabil Haji Mohammad Hossain Government Primary School.
The incident occurred at around 10am, confirmed Lieutenant Colonel Md Zahirul Islam, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Ukhiya Battalion‑64.
Angry residents blocked the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf highway in protest against the killing.
Additional members of the army and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed in the area.
Local sources said heavy fighting has been continuing for the past three days across the border in Myanmar’s Rakhine state between the Arakan Army and the Rohingya armed group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). The ongoing exchange of gunfire has created panic among residents on the Bangladeshi side of the border.
