Seven Bangladeshi expatriates killed in road accident in Oman


Bangla Press Desk: Seven Bangladeshi expatriates from Sandwip upazila of Chattogram were killed in a devastating road accident in Duqm Sidra area of Oman on Wednesday afternoon.
Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mangchinu Marma confirming the matter to Daily Sun said, "We have learnt that 14 people were returning in a microbus after fishing in the sea. Due to speeding, it lost control and overturned. Ten people have been killed."
"Seven of the deceased are Bangladeshis and all are residents of Sarikite, Magadhara, Mayt Bhanga and Rahmatpur unions in Sandwip," the UNO said, adding that efforts were being made to get detailed information by contacting the relatives of the deceased.
According to local sources, a large number of Bangladeshi expatriates engaged in commercial fishing live in that area. Six of the deceased have been identified so far. They are Mohammad Amin Soudagar, son of Ali Akbar Serang; Arju, son of Shahid Ullah; Mohammad Bablu, son of Monu Mia; Shahab Uddin, son of Siddique Ahmed; Mohammad Rocky, son of Ibrahim Mistri; and Jewel, son of Jamal Uddin.
The news of the accident has cast a pall of grief across Sarikait Union and the wider Sandwip area. Heartbroken families, relatives and neighbours are mourning the sudden loss of their loved ones.
Local representatives and community members in Oman said they are coordinating with the authorities to complete the necessary formalities for the repatriation of the victims’ bodies. This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
