Shafikur removed as Biman MD, Humaira given additional responsibility
Bangla Press Desk: The government has revoked the contract-based appointment of Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Md Shafikur Rahman, who is currently in prison in connection with a criminal case.
In his place, Dr Humaira Sultana, an additional secretary at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, has been given temporary charge of the national flag carrier.
The decision was announced in an office order issued on Tuesday (3 February) by the ministry’s “Biman-1 Wing”.
The order said Dr Shafikur Rahman’s contract-based appointment has been terminated due to his incarceration over criminal allegations. The decision took effect in line with a gazette notification issued on the same day.
To ensure the continued operation of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Dr Humaira Sultana has been assigned additional responsibility until a new managing director is appointed for the national flag carrier. She is currently serving as Additional Secretary (Aviation and Civil Aviation) at the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
According to the order, Humaira has been appointed under Section 30 (Ga) of the Bangladesh Biman Act, 2023, and she will remain in the post until a new managing director is appointed.
