Shimul Biswas Calls for Stronger Worker-Owner Ties to Fix Transport Sector

Bangla Press Desk:   Member of Parliament and Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal Coordinator Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas has pledged to make the country's transport sector more dynamic by strengthening cooperation between workers and owners.

Shimul, who also chairs the Road Transport Owners-Workers Coordination Council, made the remarks at an urgent meeting with labour and transport leaders from across the country, held at a city hotel to address the sector's ongoing crises, workers' rights, security concerns and other problems.

“We are committed to establishing fair rights for transport workers, ensuring a safe working environment and securing their social protection,” he told the meeting.

Abdur Rahim Box Dudu chaired the session, which drew leaders including Sajib Ali, Mohammad Hanif, General Islam, Abbas Uddin, Abul Kashem, Jobair Zakir, Md Musa, A Alim, Bala Miah, Haji Shahjahan, Haji Mainul Islam, Rabiul Islam, Abu Sarkar, Firoz Khan, Abdul Barik, Mominul Islam Lavlu, Nazrul Islam, Mohammad Musa and Hasan Mahmud.

Transport workers' leaders from various districts raised concerns over workplace conditions, road safety, fair rights, welfare facilities and the sector's broader crisis during the meeting.

Speaking as chief guest, Shimul Biswas described the road transport sector as one of the driving forces of the national economy. He called for greater modernisation and dynamism in the sector through mutual harmony between workers and owners.He said authorities would coordinate with all stakeholders to implement the workers' reasonable demands, and urged both workers and owners to work together to improve discipline, safety and service quality across the sector.

BNP Joint Labour Affairs Secretary and Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation General Secretary Md Humayun Kabir Khan attended as special guest. He stressed the need for unity among workers, saying only dialogue and organisational strength could secure workers' rights and resolve the sector's ongoing problems.

Representatives of district- and central-level road transport workers' organisations also attended the meeting. They praised Shimul Biswas, MP for Pabna-5, for his role in resolving the transport sector's crises and advancing workers' rights, and pledged to continue working under his leadership.
