Six killed as bus, autorickshaw collide head-on in Madaripur
Bangla Press Desk: At least six people were killed and 10 others injured as a bus collided head-on with a battery-run autorickshaw in Madaripur on Sunday.
The incident took place in the Milgate area on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway this evening.
Among the deceased, three were identified as Pannu Munshi, 50, an assistant to the bus driver; Ruman, 25; and Sagar, 26.
According to highway police and locals, a Dhaka-bound bus of Sarbick Paribahan from Madaripur collided head-on with the autorickshaw in the Milgate area.
Due to the impact of the crash, the bus fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control of the steering.
Three passengers of the autorickshaw died on the spot, while the other three succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
The injured were admitted to Madaripur 250-bed General Hospital.
Members of the highway police as well as the Fire Service and Civil Defence started rescue operations soon after the incident.
Mostofapur highway police Officer-in-Charge Mamun Al Rashid said the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy.
