Ema Alice: Four people were killed in a shooting involving an Indian family in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Police have taken one suspect into custody in connection with the incident.

Gwinnett County police were called to a residence on Brook Ivy Court, near Alton C. Crews Middle School, around 2:30 a.m. Friday after receiving a 911 call from a 12-year-old child inside the home.

Gwinnett County Police Department Corporal Angela Carter says officers arrived and found four adults dead inside the residence.

They have been identified as Meemu Dogra, 43, of Atlanta, Gourav Cumar, 33, of Lawrenceville, Nidhi Chander, 37, of Lawrenceville, and Harish Chander, 38, of Lawrenceville.

“They also located three juveniles who were located in the closet on the upper floor of the residence and they were unarmed,” Carter said.

A suspect was found a short distance away and taken into custody without incident. He has been identified as Vijay Kumar, 51, of Atlanta.

Investigators believe the shooting was domestic-related as they learned that an argument began between Dogra and Kumar at their home in Atlanta, and continued as they traveled to the residence on Brook Ivy Court with their 12-year-old child in tow.

Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander, who are relatives of Dogra and Kumar, were believed to be the residents at the Brook Ivy Court home along with two children aged seven and ten years old.

It is unknown what the argument was about, why the family from Atlanta came to the Lawrenceville home, or what led up to the tragic incident.

“Anytime someone loses their life in a situation like this, it’s tragic,” Carter said. “But it’s definitely not everyday that you find these many people that have died in one incident.”

Kumar has been charged with four counts of Aggravated Assault, four counts of Felony Murder, four counts of Malice Murder, one count of Cruelty to Children in the 1st degree, and two counts of Cruelty to Children in the 3rd degree. The investigation is ongoing.
