Tarique: Focus on welfare, not revenge
Bangla Press Desk: BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has on Tuesday urged all political actors to bring about qualitative changes in the country’s politics following the mass uprising, advocating a focus on policies aimed at public welfare rather than revenge. “Instead of politics rooted in resistance, revenge and rhetoric, we must strive for a qualitative transformation of the political landscape by adopting and implementing realistic, people-centred plans,” he said while speaking at a discussion organised by the Jatiyatabadi Shechchasebak Dal to mark its founding anniversary at the China-Bangladesh International Conference Centre in Dhaka. He emphasised that the BNP believes breaking away from conventional politics is essential to ensuring a secure future for current and forthcoming generations. “Every parent wants to leave a secure future for their child. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is formulating future political plans and programmes with the aim of meeting the hopes and expectations of every parent,” he added.
Tarique Rahman noted that the interim government has proposed a possible date for the national elections in February next year. “This election will give the people the opportunity to implement their agenda and manifesto after more than fifteen years,” he said. He also expressed concern over recent statements from some members of anti-fascist parties about holding elections as scheduled, saying they have raised questions among democracy-loving citizens. Addressing leaders of all political parties, he warned, “If divisions arise, it will ease the path for the rehabilitation of the defeated fascist clique in state and politics, creating opportunities for them. I therefore urge democracy-loving citizens to remain alert and vigilant.”
BNP Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan, Selima Rahman, and Hafiz Uddin Ahmad were among those who also spoke at the event.  This article was originally published on Daily Sun.
