Teacher detained over ‘derogatory remark’ about Tarique Rahman gets bail

Bangla Press Desk:  A Dhaka court on Sunday granted bail to AKM Shahidul Islam, a teacher arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order after a hearing.On Saturday, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman visited the grave of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi on the Dhaka University campus along with senior party leaders to pay tribute.

At that time, party leaders and activists handed over Shahidul Islam to the police on allegations of making derogatory remarks against Tarique Rahman.

Later, police showed him arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and produced him before a court, which ultimately sent him to jail.

Meanwhile, the BNP issued a statement that night demanding the “unconditional release” of Shahidul Islam.
